SUMMARY:Funday Monday – Armand Bayou Nature Center’s Bayou Safari Tour
DESCRIPTION:Participants will experience a guided outing observing wildlife from ABNC’s elevated boardwalk. Visit the animal ambassadors in the Environmental Learning Center. Board the electronic vehicles to explore the riparian forest down to the bayou\, over to the prairie\, farmhouse\, and finally to the bison. Participants will have a chance to connect with peers while learning about the natural world around them. Participants are encouraged to wear long pants\, closed-toe shoes\, bring water and insect repellent. Reservations and Waivers must be completed online prior to attending.  Bayou Safari Tour for Mounting Horizons \nNOTE: Parents/Caretakers planning to attend must register with MHI and with ABNC using their online link since there will be limited seating available on the tour buses. The cost is $15 per person. \n \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:The final installment of the Peer collective workshop series\, during which participants will: reflect on and discuss their successes during the workshop\, have a broad review of the topics covered\, consider and discuss which skills from the workshop they plan on using\, discuss their progress towards the personal support goals they set in their first session\, consider how they can continue to work on said goals\, and brainstorm community or online events they might get involved in. SUMMARY:Peer Collective Workshop – Successful Conversations
DESCRIPTION:During this workshop\, participants will: assess their own communication strategies\, learn communication skills and conversation tips for new relationships\, consider how disability and cultural differences might influence how they relate to others\, discuss how social context matters in approaching new conversations and check in on personal support goals with their peers. By participating in this workshop\, participants will continue to improve upon their existing communication skills/strategies and have increased confidence in navigating starting or maintaining relationships within their families\, social circles\, and broader community.

SUMMARY:Youth Transition Program – Exploring Life After High School II
DESCRIPTION:Youth at Friendswood HS will get to dive into another game as a group\, called Adulting 101\, where they will get to practice skills such as: budgeting for one’s needs\, picking a career based off of interests and expenses\, and other daily living tasks that might be required of them in the future as independent adults. By practicing these skills in a fun format with their peers\, participants will have increased knowledge and understanding of what adult responsibilities outside of a school setting look like and be better prepared for setting up goals for their own futures with their loved ones.

DESCRIPTION:During these sessions\, participants will engage in activities to practice basic Budgeting Skills. Discussions on values and aspirations will guide them in setting personal goals. After assessing their financial resources\, participants will draft their own monthly budgets\, allocating funds for spending and saving. Through activities focused on tracking expenses and understanding the prices of different items\, participants will become aware of their spending habits. Engaging in Budgeting Skills classes will empower participants to develop greater self-reliance in managing finances for everyday living.

By participating in the game\, participants will get hands on experience with implementing SMART goals in a fun format and be able to explore interests and new ideas relating to possible future choices for themselves.

SUMMARY:Cooking Class – Panini Sandwich
DESCRIPTION:Participant will practice their using a George Foreman Grill to make their own customized Panini Sandwich. They will review the recipe and steps before starting the process\, gather ingredients\, and clean up directions. Participant will get to choose their own ingredients for their Panini Sandwich\, taste their finished product\, and take home a copy of the step-by-step recipe/process (including clean-up directions) if wanted. This will enable the individual to be better equipped to independently use a George Foreman Grill to make a Lunch\, Dinner\, or Snack.

DESCRIPTION:What does accountability mean and what does it look like? How do you find and choose an accountability partner? What about a mentor? We’ll answer these questions and more in today’s training. Using activities\, videos\, and discussion\, participants will learn the importance of accountability in adult life and the impacts our decisions can make on our day-to-day living and professional lives. By participating in this training\, participants will have increased confidence in asking for help from their peers\, finding and being a mentor in the workplace\, and with understanding work-related expectations.
